MOE Letter Regarding Amendments to Teacher Leave Rules
1.Introduction of Mental Health Leave: "Mental Health Adjustment Leave" is added. 3 days are granted per academic year. These days are calculated within personal leave but may be taken by the hour. Schools may not refuse such requests nor impose unfavorable penalties.
2.Terminology Update: "Extended sick leave approved by the school" is renamed "Extended Sick Leave." The wording for official leave under Article 4, Subparagraph 6 is revised to "Official Leave for Work-Related Injury or Illness."
3.Official Leave for Testifying: Attending to testify in cases of sexual bullying or violations of professional ethics regarding sex or gender, based on legal obligations, is added as a valid reason for granting official leave.
4.Proof for Reinstatement: The requirements for submitting medical proof when applying for reinstatement after recovery from illness during unpaid leave have been revised.
5.Vacation for Concurrent Administrators: A provision is added stating that teachers concurrently holding administrative positions who do not qualify for 3 days of vacation in the current academic year shall be granted 3 days of vacation.
6.Vacation Calculation upon Reinstatement: The calculation method for vacation days for teachers reinstating from unpaid leave is revised. If they hold a concurrent administrative position in the academic year of reinstatement, vacation days may be granted in proportion to the months of actual administrative service based on their seniority.
7.Proof for Other Leaves: Revisions to the proof requirements for prenatal checkup leave, paternity leave, maternity leave, miscarriage leave, sick leave of 2 days or more, bone marrow/organ donation leave, and pregnancy preservation leave (2 days or more).
